Our club
Founded in the 1990s by Ian Theedam and Jim Hutchinson, Welshpool Canoe Club is a friendly, inclusive and adventurous paddling community based in the heart of Mid Wales.
We welcome paddlers aged 9 and over to explore rivers, canals and lakes in a fun, supportive environment. Whether you’re interested in kayaking, canoeing or paddleboarding, our club offers something for everyone - from complete beginners to experienced paddlers.
With expert coaching, exciting trips and a strong team spirit, Welshpool Canoe Club is the perfect place to build skills, grow confidence and create lifelong memories on the water.
Many of our members also play an active role in volunteering, helping to support the club and strengthen the wider paddling community. We are proud to be a ShePaddles Champion Club through Paddle Cymru.
Our Mission
Welshpool Canoe Club’s mission is to build a passionate, inclusive and supportive paddling community where people of all abilities can enjoy, learn and grow.
Through coaching, organised trips and club events, we promote safety, friendship, adventure and a deeper connection with the outdoors. We also celebrate the many physical and mental wellbeing benefits of paddlesport, from building fitness and confidence to reducing stress and improving overall wellbeing.
Above all, we are committed to protecting the waterways we paddle on and creating a positive, lasting impact for both our members and the environment.
