Our club

Welshpool Canoe Club was founded in the 1990's by Ian Theedam and Jim Hutchinson.

We are a family friendly and inclusive paddling club who welcome members of any ability, for ages 9 and over.

We offer frequent trips and events that take place on canals, lakes and rivers as well as coached pool sessions over the winter. We're very lucky to have club equipment and our own storage space in Welshpool! We do a mix of canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding.

Several of our members are involved in volunteering roles that combine into the club and grow the community. We are also a ShePaddles Champion Club (See Paddle Cymru for more information).

Our Mission

The mission of Welshpool Canoe Club is to create a passionate, inclusive, and supportive community of paddling enthusiasts. We aim to inspire and engage individuals of all skill levels in the joy of paddling and all there is to learn! Through organised outings, training, and events, we seek to promote safety, camaraderie, learning, fun and a deeper connection to nature. Additionally, we recognize and encourage the numerous physical and mental health benefits that paddling offers, from improving cardiovascular fitness and strength to reducing stress and boosting mental well-being. Our club is committed to preserving the natural waterways we paddle on and cultivating a positive, sustainable impact on both our members and the environment.
